2008 Monterey Gewürztraminer

Baywood Cellars’ 2008 Monterey Gewürztraminer is truly in a class by itself, and has consistently won medals in major wine competitions.

This exciting wine is marvelously fruity with a velvety, smooth texture, delivering layers of ripe pear, pineapple, and white pepper flavors. It has a wonderful, soft, smooth, semi-dry finish.

Winemaker's Comments

Gewürztraminer is a native to Italy’s Tyrolia region, but has seen much success in California as well as in Washington and Oregon.

Gewürztraminer is a tough grape to grow. If the weather is too cold, the aromas can be overpowering and the flavor bitter, but if it is too warm, it will lose its acidity before it ripens and lacking varietal character in the wine. The cooler areas in California, like Monterey, Santa Barbara, Mendocino and Carneros district are said to produce the best Gewürztraminer in California.
