Baywood Cellars newly released 2004 Monterey Merlot is a truly exceptional Coastal Merlot.
"Well focused and complex with supple, well integrated plum, currant, black cherry and spice flavors, with a long concentrated finish. To be enjoyed now and years to come."
Merlot or Merlot Noir means "young blackbird" in French and is appropriately named because of its dark-blue, almost black hued grapes.
It was not until the 1970's that Merlot proved that it could be made into a quality wine by itself because it was primarily used in Cabernet Sauvignon to soften and smooth it. It is now very popular throughout the United States.
The better example of Merlot are medium to deep red, with rich fruity aroma and flavors, almost spicy at times. Merlot will mature earlier than Cabernet Sauvigon but also has the potential to age well.
